My Bug List 2019
- Early morning lights that makes my bedroom very bright early in the morning.
- This bug exists because my room has a big window and no curtains. Every morning the rising sun shines on my side of the building.
- Traffic on Newberry Road is horrible from early in the morning and seems to stay congested through rush hour in the afternoon.
- Newberry Road is connected to I-75 and has become a main road through Gainesville. All cars that exit or are exiting there are adding to the congestion.
- People dying that I knew of or felt close to.
- All humans eventually die due to old age, health problems and other miscellaneous processes and a lot of people form connections with each other during their lifetimes. This make it more difficult when losing someone that was close.
- Reoccurring stomach pains that temporarily cause distress.
- This bug exists because my diet may not be as effective as it should and causes strange stomach pains that arise and disappear throughout the day.
- Strange vibrations and sounds that my car makes when it is idling.
- This bug exists because my car has a broken motor mount that needs to be replaced.
- There are sharp and strange sounds that can be heard from inside my apartment at random times.
- This bug exists because my building may not have been built with an effective insulation which is causing a lot of random sounds to travel through my floors.
- My Toshiba laptop battery that only lasts for about an hour when it used to last up to 3.
- This bug exists because the batteries deteriorate over time and ultimately lose their effectiveness and efficiency.
- Subutex patients that are non-adherent and constantly try to abuse it cause my anxiety levels to rise.
- This bug exists because many people can easily become addicted to opioids and eventually realize they need help. Subutex is commonly prescribed to recovering addicts. Opioid addiction is very serious and can be extremely difficult to recover from and this drug will make them high causing many patients to constantly over-utilize their prescription.
- Being interrupted while you are speaking and not being able to complete what was being said.
- This bug exists because sometimes people are not interested in hearing what is being said to them as much as they are interested in saying what they are thinking about.
- Making a carefully constructed schedule to accomplish various tasks and some external unforeseen forces cause the schedule to have to be changed or revised.
- This bug exists because humans can not predict the future and know what kind of problems or occurrences are going to happen to them with full certainty.
- Not being able to read or understand the emotions of people around me.
- This bug exists because some people are very non-expressive and becoming less social. It is also increasingly difficult to understand other emotions when people are becoming more focused on their phones in almost all times of the day.
- Having to pay an additional fee when using the internet or a credit card to purchase something.
- This bug exists because some organizations require a minimum amount to be spent when using a credit card because they have their own associated credit expenses associated with having that payment platform available.
- Agreeing with someone on an acceptable time to finish a product and them expecting it sooner than the time that was agreed upon.
- This bug exists because some people don't completely understand the processes that may be associated with the production of that product and may not realize the actual amount of time it takes to perform and keep up with everything else that is occurring at that time.
- Working while being watched closely buy someone else.
- This bug exists because many people actually perform worse when being supervised due to increased apprehension and anxiety of being judged and monitored which can make it easier for the person being watched to make a mistake because they are under more pressure than they normally would be.
- Facial acne that forms in noticeable areas.
- This bug exists because humans tend to have uncontrolled hormones and improper diets that cause their skin health to deteriorate. It takes time (more than one day) for acne to disappear making it a long term bug.
- People that lick their fingers when handling money.
- This bug exists because a lot of newer and crisp dollar bills tend to stick to each other. People found that a little moisture on their fingers helps to grip individual bills and separate them.
- Neck and back muscle spasms that spread to form a very painful and sore area.
- This bug exists because some humans may not stretch regular or have proper posture which can cause painful lumbar problems and long term posture and spinal problems. When a spasm occurs it causes the muscles in that area and surrounding areas to feel very sore.
- Advertising on the radio or TV that are weird but catchy such as advertisements with remixes of well known songs.
- This bug exists because advertisers want to make sure their product or service is heard and remembered so they use things that people can relate to such as popular songs or images of shared beliefs.
- Being constantly constrained by time.
- This bug exists because all people have a limited time to do things. It very difficult to plan what is going to be done with limited time and sometimes things have to be sacrificed in order to keep going forward.
- Mosquitoes that swarm and bite multiple areas on my body.
- This bug exists because Florida has a very hot and humid climate almost year round causing it to be a functional breeding place for mosquitoes. They drink animal and human blood and are clever enough to try to avoid being killed when noticed by flying away temporarily. They are almost silent and can be almost unnoticeable unless seen.
I did have a few challenges creating this list immediately. I took my professors' advice and thought about it for a few days recording my thoughts. I ultimately ended up looking externally and asking people I worked with about bugs that they currently had. This gave me ideas and valuable insight into things that were bothering others. It also revealed bugs that may not only be applicable to one person.
Hey Matt!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog post. It's very detailed. There are so many of your bugs that I wish I had written myself but never came to mind. You did a great job in coming up with them! I strongly agree with you on those that rudely interrupt others. This is one of my greatest pet peeves, and is a constant irk for me. Also, as someone who considers themself as socially awkward 'Working while being watched closely by someone else' is another one of my biggest pet peeves.
For feedback as far as organization goes, I would suggest in the future to maybe organize your post a bit more clearly. The bugs and why's being all combined together into bullet points makes it hard to find each one. So I suggest maybe numbering them next time. As far as the post goes, I feel that you've done your why's pretty well. And something that really helped me detail my why's better was to rephrase the question from 'why this bug exists'? to ' what is the cause?' It may help you as well. Overall good job!
Hey Matt, Matt here.
ReplyDeleteRight off the bat I love that you asked other people about their bugs. Getting multiple perspectives is a big part of problem solving in my opinion. I also thing the "why" behind neck and back pain is kind of funny: "some humans may not stretch..." makes me think you may be an alien (I won't tell, honest). Overall, a lot of your bugs are things that bug me that I blanked on when creating my own list. As a bit of constructive criticism, next time we have to do a list format, try not to use multiple bullet points for the same response. Instead, try one bullet point and then indenting or changing to a bold font to denote the change. Other than the format, it's a solid list!
